Live in NY? Wanna help?

Fresh Air Program

Remember your summer vacations? Doesn’t every kid deserve that kind of fun? We have over 200 children scheduled for Fresh Air trips this summer and need your help to host or find hosts!
The Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer vacations to New York City children from disadvantaged communities since 1877. This is your summer to help!

The end of July is growing closer and we still have 200 children who need to be placed with host families for this August. Unless all prospective host families are screened and vetted by the end of July these 200 children may miss out on an invaluable experience.

Please host a child or help us get the word out that we need folks who can welcome a child from the city into their homes next month. One last thing that is actually very important. We are looking for families who want to extend an invitation to a 9-12 year old. We really need more families who want older children and boys.

Please Email Angie, angie@freshair.org, immediately and she'll speed you through the process! Or, you can call us at 1-800-367-0003 (212.897.8900) -- ask for Angie. If you want to help but don't live in these areas - BLOG about this program, tell your friends, recommend someone, or DONATE.

OK, Let's try this again!

No, the dog did not shrink. As much as we liked the last dog we had (Annabelle) after a few days it was obvious we were not a good fit for her. She showed us several issues and needs she had that we just could not accommodate. This is why it is such a good thing to have trial visits before making things official. In fact, we think the Foster Family might have decided to keep her themselves as they realized they(and her fur buddy) missed her while she was gone.

I was talking to a friend of mine and she said if we really wanted a Beagle she knew of one that would probably be coming available before too long. There is a lady who uses the same groomer as she does and she has a habit of buying great puppies but as they get older she *throws* them away. Friend knew she had gotten a beagle at Christmas so surely she was about ready to rid herself of the dog. Friend had held her at groomer and fell in love. She said she was soooooo sweet. After we talked she called the groomer and said she knew a family who would love this dog when the time came. Groomer then contacted beagles owner only to find out that she had relinquished the dog to the pound just the day before.

The girls, friend & I went down to the pound and put an application in on her. We got the call on Monday morning that we could come get her. Poor thing got tossed into *our chaotic life* right away as we picked her up on the way to grandmas for an overnight. "Nope, girl; this is not your *home*". Then on way home I had to stop in old neighborhood to give blood so we dropped her off at old house. "No girl, still not your *home*". Finally we made it to the real *home* and she got to meet hubby, who until now had only seen a picture. Then she (and us) got to meet the neighbors and their horse. She liked the horse but the horse does not like dogs! Their dogs she did not like. 2 6 month old Pyrenees who are much larger than her. We found out that our cat (Sarah Belle) has apparently been sharing residence with the horse and goes down for playdates often. LOL I wondered where she was running off too.

Bella (that was her name prior to coming to us - I can't seem to get away from Bells) is fitting in quite nicely and I think she has found her forever home. She travels nicely too; which is real important for us. The girls are already working on training her. She goes for her 1st vet visit today and we'll get her microchipped and schedule her spaying. So far I think I'm her main owner as she lays at my feet constantly but she seems to love & want to protect all of her new family. She's a keeper for sure!
